St Patrick’s Day Hangover with Old Man Flanagan’s Ghost at the Linsmore Tavern!

If you are a fan of St Patrick’s Day and it’s festivities like we are, celebrating only 1 day is not enough! That’s why the Linsmore Tavern (1298 Danforth Ave), is going to keep the party going and will be bringing 1 of Canada’s very best Celtic bands, Old Man Flanagan’s Ghost on Saturday March 18th for St Patrick’s Day Hangover! Come out and dance with this incredible band who will be playing all of your Irish favourites! The fun all goes down at 9pm and will go late into the evening! Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door!

Old Man Flanagan’s Ghost have been bringing ‘Music with a Celtic heart’ to audiences for years. Inspired by bands such as Great Big Sea, The Pogues, The Dubliners, Flogging Molly, and more, they are an energetic folk band exciting to both watch and listen to. Launched in Jan 2012, they have impressed audiences everywhere, playing notable Toronto venues including Hugh’s Room, The Hard Rock cafe, The Sound Academy, The Opera House, The Tranzac Club and The Horseshoe Tavern.  They have played soft-seat venues such as at The Gravenhurst Opera House and headlined Festivals such as the Trenton Scottish Irish Festival (2019) and the Cobourg Highland Games (2015/2017/2021/2022).  They performed for multiple years in the Toronto Beach Celtic Festival, played at Nathan Philips Square as part of the 2016 Canada Transplant Games, Canada’s Wonderland (2021), and at The Harbourfront Centre as part of their Dancing on the Pier series in 2016 and 2017. They have performed for several events for the St. Andrew’s Society’s and The Saint Patrick’s Parade Society, and at Wineries, Yacht Clubs, weddings, and private events. They have played community events such as The Toronto International Buskerfest (2022), The Brampton East Coast Kitchen Party (2022), several Rib-fests, the Rosedale Mayfair, and multiple street festivals including The Westdale ARTSFest, The Feast of Saint Lawrence, and multiple years at the Pickering Village JAM Festival and the International Beaches Jazz Festival.  They helped celebrate Canada150 on stage at SesquiFest in London, Ontario in 2017 and played at the Canadian National Exhibition in 2019. Internationally, they were first aired in Limerick, Ireland on the Eclectic Celt radio station, and enjoyed an in-person radio interview at Frederiksberg Lokal TV in Copenhagen, Denmark.  They have participated in International Virtual Festivals during the CoVid pandemic including the Samhain New Years Celtic Festival (2020 – U.S.A) and The Barbados Celtic Festival (2021).

 

Their original music is their true passion. Their debut album “Sociable!” released in May 2015, and hit #4 nationally on community/college radio stations, including #1 positions on weekly Top 30 and folk charts.  Their sophomore album “Far From Shore” released July 2018 and received play on CBC stations around Canada, and again appeared on several college/community Top 30 and folk charts. During the Covid Pandemic, they released a collection of covers recorded during a live-stream event on their third album affectionately titled “LIVE”. (Albums are available for purchase through bandcamp, at live shows, and at most digital retailers).

They feature a dynamic fiddle performance with Bexy Ashworth and Liam McGlashon, the talented multi-instrumentalist/luthier Matti Palonen on tin whistle and double-bass (Matti also plays harp, kantele, mandolin, bandura, cello and jouhikko), Scot Allan on bodhrán (Scot also plays drums and other percussion), and Stephen Lamb on guitar and lead vocals. Best described as ‘engaging Celtic folk/rock’, they combine the sound of traditional folk instruments with a passionate intensity during fiddle tunes and sing-a-long pub rousers, and when the mood shifts to folk-style story-telling songs, the haunting melodies and warm vocals created by these musicians would ‘bring a tear to a glass-eye’.

They have been featured on 67 Music’s ‘The Celtic Music Journal’, been interviewed in Irish Music Magazine and appeared on several episodes of The Irish and Celtic Music Podcast. With their rendition of classic Celtic and east coast covers, traditional fiddle tunes, and a variety of original tunes, they often invite the audience to participate in a fun, energetic stage show that can be enjoyed by all.

Imagine the smell of the sea, cold pints of beer, old shipwrecks, stories of love and loss, and boisterous friends sharing a laugh and a song. Now mix it with an instrumentation that takes you on a journey east, and a feeling of being welcomed into your neighbour’s home for a kitchen party, THAT is the essence of Old Man Flanagan’s Ghost.
